WSOP Main Event Final Table is Set with Jordan Griff Commanding a 50m Chip Lead Over His Nearest Rivals

The final nine players who will contest the 55th Annual World Series of Poker are now known. They have a day off to recuperate and prepare for the most important end-game of their lives and will resume play at the Horseshoe Casino in Las Vegas on Tuesday 16th July, 2024.

The final table will not be concluded in one day, as they will play down to the final four players, who will then complete the tournament on Wednesday. It’s all being streamed (on a delay) on Poker Go.

Jordan Griff Leads The Way in 2024 WSOP Main Event

Illinois native Jordan Griff takes a commanding chip lead onto the final table of the 2024 World Series of Poker Main Event. He bagged up a monster 143,700,000 chip stack at the end of Day 8 in the $10,000 Championship Event at the Horseshoe Casino in Las Vegas.

His nearest challengers Brian Kim and Niklas Astedt, are nearly 50m chips behind on 94m chips but are vastly more experienced, as is the player with the fourth largest chip stack Joe Serock, on 83m. Both Kim and Serock have previously won WSOP bracelets and Serock has cashed over 100 times in WSOP bracelet events, live and online.

In fifth place is Canadian Jason Sagle with a healthy 67,300 chip stack. Bulgarian Boris Angelov has good live credentials, having finished as runner-up at the EPT Monte Carlo Main Event earlier this year. He goes into the final table in sixth place with 52,900 chips.

Texan Jonathan Tamayo, Parisien Malo Latinois and Spaniard Andres Gonzales complete the nine person final table, with a $10m first prize.

WSOP Main Event Day Eight Update

Eighteen players returned on the eighth day of the most prestigious live poker tournament in the world. They played until their numbers had been cut in half and the final nine players had been determined.

Much fancied to make her first Main Event final table was Kristen Foxen, who has four WSOP bracelets to her name and is a much feared and respected opponent. She had been running strongly and had been amongst the chip leaders for the last few days, however her journey came to an end in 13th place, collecting $600,000.

She was eliminated by fellow bracelet winner Joe Serock, who’s AK was too good for Kristen’s KQ on a AKL flop.

The player who just missed out on the final table was Portuguese Diogo Coehlo, who exited in similar fashion, with AJ against the AK of Niklas Astedt.

Other players who's tournament ran aground on Day 8 included Guillermo Sanchez Orto, who depatrted in 16th place for $450,000. Guillermo has been referreed to as the last standing British player in the tournament, but yesterday the official coverage corrected his nationality to Spanish.

Guillermo does live in the UK, but ahead of last night's European Championship final between Spain & England, it was important that he clarrified this.

In fact, the last standing British player was 19th placed finisher Charles Russell. He had been the last player to be eliminated at the end of Day 7 for $350,000.
