Main Event of WSOP Approaching the Bubble as Day 3 Draws to a Close

The third day of the record breaking Main Event of the World Series of Poker ended after another five two-hour-long levels of play at the Horseshoe Casino in Las Vegas. They often get into the prize money by this stage of the tournament, but on this occasion, they are not quite there yet.

The vast majority of the 1,540 Day 3 survivors (from 3,617 players who started the day) will get a minimum payout of $15,000, however 23 players will miss out on a payday, as there are only 1,517 places being paid.

WSOP Main Event End of Day 3 Chip Leaders

The end of Day 3 chip leader is Francisco Perez Moreno from Spain, on 2,187,000. He was the only player to post a stack bigger than 2m chips and holds a sizeable lead over second placed Justin Datloff on 1,819,000. Alex Livingston, who went into the day as one of the chip leaders remains as such, sitting in third place with a 1,808,000 chip stack.

The energetic and enthusiastic GG Poker Ambassador Ren Lin also had a great day at the tables, bagging a top ten chip count, with 1,570,000 cookies to his name.

Faces in the Day 3 Main Event Field

There are still lots of very well known players left in the field, including several multiple bracelet winners. Phil Ivey, Daniel Negreanu, Brian Rast, Kristen Foxen, John Hennigan and Erik Seidel are amongst them. ACR ambassador Nacho Barbero is handily placed with a seven figure chip stack.

GG Poker Ambassador Daniel Negreanu is short stacked, on 74,000 and still has a bit of squeaky bum time to go before the bubble bursts.

Six Former Main Event Champions Survive Day 3

Six out of eleven former WSOP Main Event champions who started Day 3 made it to the end of the day.

However, none of the surviving former champions have huge chip stacks, with most sitting in mid-division, or perilously close to the felt. Koray Aldemir on 443,000, bagged up the largest stack of the former champions. Joe McKeehan is not far behind on 420,000.

Scott Blumstein (299,000) and Robert Varkonyi (280,000) are both looking fairly safe to make the prize money, however Espen Jorstad (136,000) and in particular Daniel Weinman (82,000) still have a bit of work to do to ensure a payday.

British Players on Day 3 of the Main Event

British players are having a great time at the 55th Annual World Series of Poker, with six bracelet winners (seven if you include online bracelets). While no Brits are smashing it at the top of the chip charts in the main event, there are quite a lot still in.

The overnight chip leader of the Brit Pack is Lucas Reeves, with a 1,303,000 chip stack. He lies in 27th place overall and just one place behind him in 28th is another Brit, Guillermo Sanchez Otero, on 1,301,000.

These two are well ahead of the next best placed British contender, Iaron Lightbourne, who entered the day with the biggest stack of any UK player. He now has a very healthy 901,00 stack and is well ahead of fourth placed Jacob Stone, who has 754,000.

In fifth is EPT founder John Duthie, who started the day with 493,000 and has now increased that to 713,000.
