News and Results from the World Poker Tour, including Daniel Sepiol's WPT Alpha8 victory

With so much of the poker world focusing on the 55th Annual World Series of Poker, the World Poker Tour has been in a period of relative calm, but that is soon set to change, as there are four WPT Championship events scheduled for the rest of the year. There are also six further WPT Prime events left to take place in 2024.

There are also online WPT Championships taking place four times a year at WPT Global, making it possible to become a WPT Champion while playing in your pyjamas.

Daniel Sepiol Becomes a WPT Alpha8 Champion

The WPT hasn’t been completely inactive during the WSOP. Also in Las Vegas, three high roller WPT Alpha8 tournaments were scheduled during the summer. This WPT Alpha8 Trifecta, as it is known, is taking place at the Wynn during the Wynn Summer Classic.

The first of these $25,000 buy-in tournaments had 78 entrants was won by Brock Wilson, who defeated Seth Gottlieb heads up to take down the $571,400 first prize.

The second was won by none other than WPT World Champion Daniel Sepiol. This edition had a larger field of 108 runners ands Sepiol claimed the $672,200 first prize after defeating Canadian Jonathan Cohen heads up.

Earlier this summer Daniel also captured his first WSOP bracelet, when winning Event 23, the $1,500 buy-in Shootout for over $300,000. Having won over $5m at the WPT World Championship at the end of 2023, this continues to be a great spell of play for the understated champion.

The third event of the Alpha8 Trifecta takes place this week, side-by-side with the WSOP Main Event.

WPT Macau Cancelled

Sadly the WPT had to cancel the Championship event that was originally scheduled to take place in June. The WPT didn’t cite a reason for the cancellation, but issued a statement apologising for any inconvenience caused and re-iterating that they remain committed to bringing poker back to the region.

It is not the fist cancellation that the WPT has been forced to make this year, as just two months earlier the WPT Vietnam event was also pulled, due to uncertainty about the event being able to progress without disruption from authorities, who have already shut down several poker events in the Vietnam this year.

Online WPT Events at WPT Global

Both WPT Championship and WPT Prime Championship events take place several times a year at online poker site WPT Global. They usually take place within wider online poker series, with at least two more expected to take place in 2024.

The next online WPT Events to take place are scheduled within the WPT Global Summer Festival, which takes place from July 28th - August 18, 2024. The full schedule has not yet been released.

Qualify Online with with WPT Passport Dollars

WPT Global offers players the chance to qualify for live WPT events, via WPT Passport satellites, which award winning players with credit, allowing a choice of events to play. There are two types of WPT Passport that can be won:

$12,400 WPT Championship Passport
$1,500 WPT Prime Passport

Both of these offer winning players the chance to receive their prize as WPT Passport Dollars, which players can use for tournaments, travel expenses and other associated costs of attending ANY live WPT Championship or WPT Prime festival.

WPT Passport Dollars also enable players to mix-and-match the events they use them for, as well as using them to enter further online satellites on WPT Global to win even more credit to use at WPT live events.

WPT Passport and WPT Prime satellites both take place on Sundays:

15.14 ET: $110 WPT Prime Passport Satellite with at least 1 x $1,500 WPT Prime Package Guaranteed
18:30 ET: $1,060 WPT Passport Satellite with at least 3 x $12,400 WPT Prime Packages Guaranteed
