Online Poker Site ACR Has Renamed One of its Key Weekly Tournaments After Its Ambassador Chris Moneymaker
Online poker site ACR has renamed one of its flagship weekly tournaments in honour of their sponsored pro Chris Moneymaker.
The $109 buy-in tournament, previously known as the Warmup, has also had its prize pool guarantee increased to $300,000, but this is upped even further to $500,000 for the last Sunday of each month. The inaugural event for the rebranded “Sunday Moneymaker” on July 28th will have a $500,000 guarantee.
Chris Moneymaker famously won the World Series of Poker Main Event in 2003 and the coincidence of his win and his surname at a time when poker was already growing helped fuel the poker boom of the mid 2000s. He is also an ambassador for ACR Poker and additionally lends his name to a live series of events, the Moneymaker Tour.
ACR Poker is already the home of online satellites to the Moneymaker Tour, but with this rebranding of the Warmup, players on the site can have a Moneymaker experience each and every week. The Sunday Moneymaker tournament will be taking place every Sunday, at 1.05pm (ET).
Mega Satellites to the Sunday Moneymaker
$109 is a fairly standard buy-in for big guarantee online poker tournaments, however not everyone has the bankroll to buy-in directly. Even those players who do have big enough bankrolls to play $109s regularly often like to challenge themselves and get in for cheaper than usual.
On weeks when the event has a $300,000 guarantee, there will be an $11 Mega Satellite at 10.05am (ET) with 40 seats guaranteed into the Sunday Moneymaker. However on the last Sunday of each month, when the guarantee is increased to $500,000, there will be two Mega Satellites, one for $11 with 50 seats guaranteed and another for $22 where the guarantee is 75 seats.
Freerolls and Micro Hyper Satellites
The mega satellites also have freerolls and micro stakes hyper turbo satellites (priced at $1.05 and $2.10) to enable pretty much any player on the site to have an opportunity to play in the Sunday Moneymaker, regardless of bankroll size.
The Two Venoms at ACR Poker
Chris Moneymaker is also the poster boy (along with Tom Dwan) for the latest iteration of ACR’s flagship Venom tournament. With a $2,650 buy-in and a $12m guaranteed prize pool for the last event in April, the Venom is the biggest tournament in online poker.
In August 2024 ACR will host not one, but two Venom tournaments, with a total of $10m guaranteed between them. There is $8m reserved for the classic No Limit Hold’em version, with a further $2m set aside for the Venom Omaha. Both carry the usual $2,650 price ticket that the tournament is known for.
