WPT Global's KO Series Concludes with Overlays in both main events

KO Series Main Event and Mini Main Event Overlay

The first series dedicated to bounty tournaments has now concluded at WPT Global. The KO Series was a short online festival which ran for just eight days, with $2m in prize pool guarantees, including $250,000 assured for its $220 main event and $75,000 for the lower priced $22 mini main event.

As highlighted last Friday on PokerWired’s weekend Overlay Alert, these phase tournaments had an extremely high likelihood of overlaying and both did indeed miss their guarantees by a considerable amount. The total overlay from both main events waas $40,100.

Saturday’s Mini Main Event had been underperforming in its starting days and despite a surge of interest in the last few phase 1s, participation fell short by in the region of 650 players, producing an overlay of circa $13,000.

In total the event had 3,100 entries but required 3,750 to meet its $75,000 guarantee. Of the 532 players who made it to the second phase, 470 made the prize money.

The KO Series Main Event had a $220 buy-in and a $250,000 guarantee, which required 1,250 players to be met. The remaining weekend starting days of this event also saw an increase in participation, however it was not enough to get the headline event over the ‘noverlay’ line.

With 1,114 entries across all the starting days, the event missed its guarantee by $27,200. While this is a bigger overlay than the Mini Main Even experienced, it represented an overlay of 11%, which was not as big as the 17% overlay of the junior tournament.

Results of other tournaments on the festival schedule are not yet known, but several other tournaments also fell short of their prize pool guarantees.

Daily Escalator Schedule

The two KO Series Main Events produced a combined overlay of $40,200 and while value hunters may now be sad that the series is over, there’s still plenty of value to be found on the site, as many regular tournaments and live event satellites on WPT Global are posting overlays on a regular basis.

They even have three daily ‘escalator’ tournaments that almost always miss their guarantees and if they do make it, they increase the guarantee by 10% from then on.
