    Asian Poker Tour History

The Asian Pacific Poker Tour is responsible for introducing the first-ever government-sanctioned poker tournaments to Korea and China. The first-ever Asian Pacific Poker Open was held in Macau in 2007. With 352 entrants, it also became the largest poker tournament in Asia at the time.

That first season saw five events in four locations, Manila, Seoul, Macau, and Sydney. Australian Grant Levy won the Grand Final in Sydney taking home $875,542 more than quadruple the second-largest prize of that first season.

Season two saw the Asian Pacific Poker Tour continue to grow with six events in five locations. The newest tournament stop being in Auckland, New Zealand which had the third-largest prize of the season at $169,999.

The final was again held in Sydney, Australia with the Netherlands Martin Rowe grabbing the season's biggest grand prize with $631,780.

That season's biggest event however was the APPT Macau 2008 with 538 entrants which smashed the previous record of 352. It showed strong interest and growth in the Asian Pacific Tour and that was assisted by sponsors PokerStars.

Now in its 15th season, the Asian Pacific Poker Tour is currently in seven countries with this year's tour having eight total stops and hundreds of events. The number of entrants has continued to grow as well.

The largest specialty event record is currently held by the APPT Beijing Millions which was held in 2014. That event saw a record 2,732 entrants compete for almost 2 million dollars ($1,195,647).

The largest APPT Main Event was set at the 2018 APPT Manila which had 1,364 players with the top prize being $244,815.

While the Asian Pacific Poker Tour is now held in seven countries the winners are from all over. The APPT  has had winners from 20 different countries with Australia having the most winners at 13.

China has had the second most winners at 11 with the US in third at eight. Nine different countries have had nine winners so you can see that the Asian Pacific Poker Tour is now truly a global event.

The APPT rivals the Asia Poker Tour, European Poker Tour, and even the World Poker Tour
