Highlights of Live and Online Poker Events Taking Place in Summer 2024

The new champion Jonathan Tamayo has received his bracelet and his $10m first prize. We're not sure how much of a share of that is headed in the direction of his chief strategists on the rail, Joe McKeehan and Dominik Nitsche or how much the taxman will ultimately claim, but for now our focus looks forward to what poker there is to come in the near future.

The marathon seven-week long behemoth that was the 55th Annual World Series of Poker is now over. It will be back in ten-and-a-half months to do it all over again, but there’s a whole heap of poker to be played before the curtain raises on the 56th Annual World Series of Poker.

With the Series now put to bed, what will the poker world be focusing on for the rest of the summer? For some players the re-emergence of significant online poker series will be enough to maintain their focus for the rest of the summer but for others, especially those affected by WSOP FOMO, a bit of live poker might be preferable.

PokerWired takes a look at the major live and online poker series coming up in the next couple of months.

Live Events in Late Summer 2024

Live poker has been booming for the last few years. The WSOP has continued to grow and there are more live events being scheduled than ever before.

Whether you’re new to the game and are looking for something cheap and cheerful or if you’re a seasoned pro looking for some higher priced action, there are plenty of choices for all this summer.

Low Buy-In Live Poker Events

Low buy-in events, for the purposes of this article, are those which have a Main Event buy-in of less than $1,000. The majority of live poker events in Europe fall into this category and there are plenty scheduled for the latter part of the summer.

Grosvenor Goliath, Coventry

The single biggest annual tournament that takes place outside Las Vegas is the Grosvenor Goliath, which this year takes place from July 27th - August 4th at the G Casino in Coventry. It has been running since 2011 and had 11,493 entries for its last edition in 2023.

For 2024 the buy-in of the main event has increased from £150 to £200, which may have an impact on the growth rate of the event, but even if it fails to grow, it will still be the biggest of the low buy-in events this summer.

APAT World Championship of Amateur Poker, Nottingham

The Amateur Poker Association and Tour hold its World Championship of Amateur Poker at Dusk Till Dawn in Nottingham, taking place from 21-26 August. The festival features a £210 buy-in Main Event, which is supported by several side events including a £70 PLO Championship, a Tag Team Event, a Mini Main Event priced at £70 and a £350 High Roller.

Irish Poker Tour - Various Events, Ireland

The Irish Poker Tour is a series of short low buy-in Festivals that typically last for 2-3 days over a weekend. The Main Events are usually €150-€300 buy-in tournaments and are easily accessible to most poker players. There are several events taking place on the tour this summer.

  • Northern Festival, Dundalk, 26-28 July
  • Irish Poker Tour Cork, 9-10 August
  • €20k in a Day, Claremorris, 17 August
  • Lunasa Lunacy Festival, Dublin, 23-26 August
  • Donegal Poker Festival, 13-15 September
  • The Killarney Festival, 24-29 September

The Festival in Malta

The Festival is a a great series for anyone who likes mixed games, as non-Hold’em games are not just side events. The Festival includes two Main Events, one No Limit Hold’em, the other H.O.R.S.E.S, which is the regular H.O.R.S.E mixed poker game with the addition of Sviten Special to the rotation.

The buy-ins at the Festival start at €125, with the Main Events priced at €550 and High Roller events, of which there is more than one, at €1,100.

The Festival in Malta takes place at Portomaso Casino in St Julian’s from 8-15th September

Online satellites to The Festival Malta, with packages including hotel nights and VIP hospitality take place on poker rooms on the iPoker Network throughout July and August, such as Bet365 Poker, Betfred Poker and Grosvenor Poker.

Mid-Stakes Live Poker Events

Mid-Stakes events are those where the Main event buy-in is in the $1,000-$2,000 range. There are also many events in this price range taking place over the next few months and some of the events in the High Stakes category also include a lot of mid-stakes tournaments on their schedules, so there is really a lot of choice for live poker players wanting to play mid-stakes tournaments.

WSOPC Tallinn

During the 55th Annual WSOP in Las Vegas the first half of the new season of the WSOP Circuit was announced, including 18 festivals between now and the end of 2024. One of the first of these to take place was already known to be happening before the nee season announcement and is WSOPC Tallinn, Estonia.

The festival takes place 19-28 July at the Olympic Casino in the Estonian capital, with a €1,100 Main Event at the centre of the 12 gold ring schedule.

WPT Prime Liechtenstein

WPT Prime is also set for a busy second half of the year and perhaps the busiest of the events to come is WPT Prime Liechtenstein. In 2023 this was the busiest of the World Poker Tour's Prime Events (excluding the WPT Prime World Championship at Wynn, Las Vegas. There were 1,644 entries in the 2023 edition, which was won by Hungarian David Kozma.

The buy-in for the events is in Swiss France, with the Main Event costing SFr1,100 to enter. The festival takes place from August 28 - September 9, 2024 at Grand Casino Liechtenstein.

Players at WPT Global can compete weekly to win a WPT Prime Passport, which gives players flexibility to choose the WPT Prime event that they wish to play. These can be used to play in the WPT Prime Liechtenstein Championship event.

Enjoy Poker Tour Punta de Este

The Enjoy Poker Tour is a popular event in Uruguay, not only with locals, but also with other players from across South America and even further afield, thanks to satellites that are available on ACR Poker.

Enjoy Poker Tour festivals are a week-long series of live poker events, taking place at the Enjoy Resort in Punta del Este, Uruguay. They feature several tournaments on their schedule, including the $1,650 buy-in Main Event and a $3,300 High Roller. The next event on the tour takes place from 2-10 August.

GUKPT Luton

Once the excitement of the Goliath has died down, the Grosvenor UK Poker Tour gets back to its regular schedule with leg 8 at the G Casino in Luton. It takes place from 12-22 September, 2024 with a £1,250 Main Event at its heart. Players can qualify online at Grosvenor Poker.

High Stakes Live Poker Events

There are also options for high stakes players on the forthcoming calendar. WSOP Paradise has just been announced for December and it will be a high roller festival, with the minimum buy-in starting at $2,500 and featuring a $25,000 Super Main Event. The biggest buy-in at WSOP Paradise will be $1,000,000, a very cool million.

There have been no further Triton Poker Series events announced yet for 2024, but it would be surprising not to see at least one further edition before the end of 2024.

Triton TD Luca Vivaldi teased a possible return of the Triton Million, but as yet nothing has reached the public realm about such an event.

However players who like high stakes action have plenty on offer before the final month of the year, in Europe in particular. .

EPT Barcelona

EPT Barcelona is one of the biggest poker events of the year in Europe. This stop has been the busiest stop of every European Poker Tour for as long as anyone can remember and was the first of the EPT festivals to become really big. Its not strictly a high stakes tour, as each stop combines the lower priced regional tour with the EPT.

The EPT Barcelona festival begins with the Estrellas Poker Tour with a €1,1000 Main Event and lower priced side events before the festival makes way for the big guns, with the EPT’s €5,300 Main Event at the centre of the schedule.

The festival takes places from 26 August - 8 September at Casino Barcelona. Online satellites are available for both the Estrellas and the EPT Main Events at PokerStars.

Super High Roller Bowl Series Cyprus

The next event on the PokerGo Tour is the Super High Roller Bowl Series Cyprus event, which takes place 17-25 August at the Merit Royale Hotel & Casino in Kyrenia. The minimum buy-in of the ten events on the schedule is $25,000 with the Super High Roller Bowl IX carrying a $300,000 price tag. So cheap, some can even afford more than one bullet, pfft!

WSOPE, Rozvadov, Czech Republic

The World Series of Poker Europe is like a more condensed version of the regular las Vegas WSOP. It takes place from 18 September until 8 October, 2024, with a schedule that includes 15 bracelet events. The WSOPE Main Event runs from 4-8 October with a €10,350 buy-in and a €5,000,000 prize pool guarantee.

Satellites to the WSOPE Main Event are underway on GG Poker, with €1,050 direct satellites running on Sunday evenings on the world’s largest online poker site.

Online Poker Series in Summer 2024

Online poker is also a pretty big deal these days and with the WSOP now in the bag, most sites are upping their game for the rest of the summer with their online tournament series. These are just some of the many online series that are running now or scheduled to take place later this summer.

Bounty Hunters Series on GG Poker
undefined

The biggest tournaments of the series take place on Sundays, with the $54 Bounty Hunters Main Event with guarantees of $750k-$1m is one of the weekly highlights. The $108 Mystery Bounty Main Event has a $4m guarantee and has starting days running throughout the series.

WPT Global’s Summer Festival

The Festival Online

The Festival is a live poker series with a strong focus on mixed games. It recently held its first live event of the year at Kings Casino, Rozvadov and has a further live edition lined up for Malta in September, but before that there is a €1.5m guaranteed online version of The Festival taking place on iPoker, including on bet365 poker, Betfred Poker and Grosvenor Poker. The main of the event has a €55 buy-in and €100,000 guaranteed prize pool.

Coinpoker Monster Series

Coinpoker’s Monster Series runs from July 21-28, with a week of deep, or rather monster stacked tournaments to get you munch into. There are 6-7 tournaments per day with buy-ins ranging from a very affordable ₮3 up to ₮500, which is the buy-in for the main event of the series.

ACR's The Two Venoms

ACR has announced a special Venom series for the summer, featuring not one, but two of the site’s flagship high buy-in tournaments. One of these is the traditional NLH version, with an $8m guarantee, while the other with a $2m guarantee is played a Pot Limit Omaha and will be the biggest PLO event the site has ever held.
