Mike Matusow
‘Matusow,’ a new documentary that delves into the life of poker pro Mike Matusow is now streaming on Amazon Prime.

Four-time World Series of Poker (WSOP) champion Mike Matusow’s journey has been captured in a documentary called Matusow.

Filmmaker Frank Zarrillo, who has received awards for his work, began documenting Matusow's life during the 2021.

Over the course of this project, Zarrillo conducted interviews with numerous poker players and media representatives, including Chad Holloway, who was one of three team members present at the screening.

The private event also featured notable attendees such as Poker Hall of Famers Phil Hellmuth and Mori Eskandani.

Notably absent was Scott Matusow, Mike's brother, who provided significant commentary in the film. The documentary reveals existing tensions between the siblings, particularly from events that occurred three years prior.

Zarrillo's film presents a multifaceted view of Matusow, showcasing both aspects of his public persona as "Mike the Mouth" and more personal struggles that have shaped his life.

The two-hour documentary addresses various topics, including drug addiction, Matusow's health challenges, family disputes, and his potential induction into the Poker Hall of Fame.
Hall of Fame

The film raises questions about whether Matusow deserves a place in the Poker Hall of Fame. While some figures like Hellmuth advocate for his induction, others, including Scott Matusow, argue that Mike's behavior has distanced him from potential voters.

However, several players featured in the documentary expressed their belief that Matusow should be inducted or would eventually receive this honour, including 2023 inductee Brian Rast.

Hellmuth suggested that winning a fifth bracelet would solidify Matusow's status as a Hall of Fame candidate.

Matusow nearly achieved this last summer when he finished as the runner-up in the $1,500 Seven Card Stud Hi-Lo 8 or Better event and fifth in the $25,000 High Roller H.O.R.S.E.

The documentary concludes with Matusow reflecting on how he wishes to be remembered, stating that he hopes to be recognised as one of the pioneers of poker.

Talking about Matusow’s Hendon Mob stats, the pro has over $10 million in total live earnings and stands in the 146th position in the All Time Money List.

Nevada All Time Money List has Matusow sitting in 9th place. The American pro had seven cashes in WSOP 2024 in Las Vegas and finished in the 10th place in the $1,500 No Limit Hold'em - The Closer event.
