As the dust settles on another year of poker, the Global Poker Index (GPI) has unveiled its eagerly awaited Player of the Year awards for 2024.

The 2024's results for GPI’s Player of the Year races are finally out. Poker pro David Coleman was crowned as the Player of the Year (PoY).

Global PoY Race

New Jersey's David Coleman emerged victorious in the overall Player of the Year race. Coleman's consistent performance throughout the year earned him 4,383.70 GPI points, just enough to edge out Jesse Lonis by a mere 9.32 points.

Adrian Mateos wasn't far behind, also breaking the 4,300-point barrier in this three-way battle.

While Coleman may have claimed the yearly crown, Lonis maintains his top position in the rolling GPI global leaderboard as we head into 2025. It's clear that these three players will be ones to watch in the coming year.

Cherish Andrews

In the world of poker, Cherish Andrews proved once again that she's a force to reckon with. Andrews clinched her second GPI Female Player of the Year title, adding to her 2022 victory.

The competition was not easy, as Andrews had to outsmart two-time defending champion Kristen Foxen in a close contest.

Andrews' stellar year didn't stop there. She finished runner-up in the Mid-Major PoY category. This award, focusing on tournaments with buy-ins of $2,500 or less, ultimately went to Texas native Han Feng.

National PoY Awards

The GPI's national awards paint an inspirational picture of poker's global reach, with players from 90 countries earning recognition. Some familiar faces continued their dominance:

Colombia's Farid Jattin extended his incredible streak, topping his country's leaderboard for the tenth consecutive year.

Spain's Adrian Mateos and England's Stephen Chidwick each notched their ninth national PoY title, cementing their status as poker royalty in their respective countries.

Nick Yunis, a Chilean native now calling Florida home, secured his eighth national award, proving that poker excellence knows no borders.

Amidst the established personalities, new players etched their names in poker history. Iceland's Steinn Thanh Du Karlsson, Jersey's Eddie Quinn and India’s Santhosh Suvarna became the first players from their countries to claim a GPI National PoY honour.

As the poker world looks ahead to 2025, these players and many others will soon gather in Las Vegas for the GPI Awards ceremony.

The event promises to be a night of celebration, recognising not just the skill aspect, but also the passion that drives the global poker community forward.
